At Metro Dental, you are our priority – our Calgary dentists ensure our equipment is up to date and can provide you with a sense of ease, knowing that technology will allow us to take preventative measures with your oral health.  We have an intraoral camera x-ray, this means that the x-ray is filmed inside of the mouth. This x-ray is the most common among dentists and provides a great amount of detail so that your dentist can find cavities, check the health of tooth root and bone, status on developing teeth and the general health of your teeth and jawbone.

There are three different types of Intraoral x-rays:

  1. Bite-wing X-rays – Details the upper and lower teeth in one segment of the mouth, each bite-wing will display a tooth from its crown to the supporting jawbone. This method is used to detect decay and changes in bone density caused by gum disease and may also be used when fitting a crown and the marginal integrity of fillings.
  2. Periapical X-rays – Details an entire tooth from crown to beyond the root where it becomes anchored in the jaw. All tooth dimension and portion in the upper or lower jaw is shown through this method and can be used to detect abnormalities in root structure and surrounding bone structure.
  3. Occlusal X-rays – Details a larger full tooth development and placement x-ray, this reveals the entire arch of teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
